Sports Gadget - Nike+

I consider myself a geeky kind of guy, living in a geeky kind of world....  As a geek, a common geek, I love gadgets...  Gadget is a part of me, and I love trying new gadgets...  In doing sports, I happen to bring gadgets with me...

As you can see in the sidebar, I use nike+ chip to track my calories and my runs.  Nike+ chip can be paired with an ipod or a sportband.  I happen to use the nike+ ipod part.

Nike+ ipod measure pace, distance and calories.  It even create a graph of your runs, which can be stored and shared in the nike plus website.  I believe the nike+ sportband do as much without the tunes.

Using the nike+ website you can take challenges or race with other nike+ user.  Competing with other people creates a good motivation for your sports activity.

The nike+ chip can be use with nike+ shoes or you can even buy a pouch like shown below from amazon, for about US$5-10, to use it with any shoes.  The nike+ pouch is made by grantwood technology.  Details about it can be viewed in their website.
Officially, Apple recommended not to disassemble the nike+ chip.  So when the battery runs out you need to buy a new one.  But instructables.com can give you a great walkthrough if you ever want to disassemble it yourself.

During the workout, Nike+ chip can give you accurate information about your calories output.  It calculate your calories using variables such as your weight, incline and the temperature.  The chip can be calibrated to maintain accuracy.

Goals...

A life without goals is a life without direction, meaningless and empty...

It is really a good idea for you guys, who are trying to reduce your weight, to set your own reasonable goal and a reasonable time span to achieve it. Remember to set it reasonably. Psychologically, if you set an absurd time span or goal, it will affect your motivation to reach your goal. Your motivation will waver because you don't achieve your own given target. We don't want that to happen do we?

After setting your goal and time span you have to have self discipline and commitment to achieve it. It won't be easy, but don't give in to self-pity. Although it is okay to treat yourself with compliments after achieving your target, remember don't do it overly to much.

Commitment in your diet and sports are very important. It's usually hard to make a habit of sports and diet, but once you are able, it's important not to give in to self-pity. Since for some people sports and diet are sometimes considered to be a boring thing to do, once you give yourself a holiday or day off of your commitment, sometimes it is very hard to continue or start again. Remember to be successful in your sports and diet, you need to have a strong commitment.

So... It's about my physical description...

I'm a boy (or is it a man ?) in my 22nd year of life seeing the world.

I'm about 166.5 cm (5.46 ft) tall and today (13th of October 2008) and I weight about 81 kg (178.3 lbs).

If you used a BMI (Body Mass Index) calculator from www.halls.md in here or here, my BMI is about 29.2 or 29.4 which if you compare to the BMI Index Chart in here or shown like the one below, I would fell in the Overweight zone, nearing the Obese zone.

For your info, the BMI formula is your weight divided with the square of your height in meters.  So therefore, the BMI formula looks like this :

With a life as a software engineer, I don't really do sports except for finger sports (typing keyboard).  So therefore I considered my self having a weak stamina, with high intensity of cholesterol.
